Great TAMU gym. Like the modern feel, always clean and lots of weight machines, even in the fullest there's is always space for you to exercise. Bathroom are clean, and lockers are secure with the built in locks.

While the Southside Rec Center at TAMU may have updated, fancy equipment and machines galore, that’s about the only positive thing I can say. My experience was completely soured by the staff—rude, dismissive, and totally unhelpful. It felt like I was bothering them just by asking simple questions. The facility might look nice on the surface, but the service and atmosphere were anything but welcoming. In contrast, Brazos Valley Barbell did not disappoint. While it’s more of an old-school gym, it has exactly what you need for a serious workout—and then some. I was more than happy to pay the extra $3 to support this locally owned gym where the staff actually cares. They were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and made me feel like a valued guest from the moment I walked in. Bottom line: don’t let the flashy equipment at Southside fool you. If you care about atmosphere, professionalism, and community, skip the frustration and head straight to Brazos Valley Barbell.

My squad and I visited College Station and this was a great place for some good basketball runs. Staff was helpful, students were friendly, there was plenty of basketballs to use and there was plenty of time to use them. Left undefeated and out of gas! They run games to 21 here, beware! Kudos to Texas A&M University for allowing non-students to be in here.

Great new rec spot. It has plenty of floor space so the fitness area doesn't feel cramped like other gyms, and there are plenty of machines even for the number of students who use it. Wish there were more than two basketball courts, but the option is nice. They also have multipurpose rooms, a bouldering room, nice locker rooms, an indoor turf area, and an outdoor turfed workout area.

The 7th and most useful review so far. First, don’t forget to bring a towel if you plan to use the strength and conditioning room per TAMU policy. There’s a total of 27 power racks (18 with deadlift platforms & custom A&M bumper plates). A huge dumbbell selection that goes up to 150lbs. An indoor turf stretching area. 2 indoor convertible basketball/volleyball courts & 2 outdoor sand volleyball courts. An outdoor fitness area on turf with 3 additional racks. A small bouldering area. Upstairs has additional cardio equipment. Some machines/equipment is on backorder and I was told it would arrive in a couple months. As the gym is brand new, everything is in mint condition and there’s a very spacious feel to the facility. A few lockers are available to lock up personal items, the locker room is not that big however.
