The club maintains a strong tradition of events, long-distance swims, and year-round participation. A cornerstone of the city’s waterfront athletic scene.

It’s one of the nicest swim communities in the world. Club sports also include handball, rowing and running. We are very social and fun-loving, and we welcome guests. Please know that we are an all-volunteer club, so if you show up - especially midday, it’s possible no one will be there to let you in.

My late Grandfather was Phillip Hunter, he's pictured here with Bob Roper, a close fellow SERC member. My grandfather's 'other' life revolved around his beloved South End club. He was very involved in every aspect of the Club, but especially with open water swim planning, and his namesake row boat is available for all members to use. He rowed single sculls in his teens and twenties, as well as handball where he developed relationships with former SF Mayors, and other City leaders whose paths crossed at SERC

This was a pretty unique experience. I met a member on the flight to SF and she invited me for an open water swim. The club is historic and nice. Everyone was super friendly. Viewing Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge and then turning around to see the city scape is an amazing experience because you’re in the water! After you get out, a shower and sauna is the best way to recover.
