Our family rented the camping grounds at Camp McAllen and had an amazing time! The park is beautiful and peaceful, perfect for a getaway. There were so many outdoor activities to enjoy like archery, kayaking, and fishing which kept everyone entertained. The staff was incredibly kind and helpful, which made the experience even better. This place is definitely a must visit for anyone looking to enjoy the outdoors!

First time visitor. The walking trails were smaller than expected. It appears they are still under construction in some areas. Kayak rentals are available. Archery is available as well. Fishing and tent camping areas. I did spot a picnic table. My daughter and I just walked the trail today but perhaps we’ll be back and try the kayaking.

Very nice park with plenty of natural hiking paths that are well maintained paths. A fishing pond is part of the park that attracts wildlife and birds. They have picnic areas, a pavilion, and scenic benches for enjoying the surrounding nature. I very much enjoy walking the trails and taking a break by the shore of the pond.

A breath of fresh air in North McAllen but lacking operational consistency. Went on a Friday morning at 11:32am to kayak only to find out kayak rentals close at 12pm. Rentals are in 30-minute increments, so we unfortunately couldn’t kayak. Went back the following day (Saturday) at 10am but the rental office was closed entirely. There is no signage with operational hours for neither kayaks or archery, so patrons are left guessing. There doesn’t appear to be a phone number available, so you can’t call ahead. Although it is a nice outdoor escape with all the walking trails and fishing pond, it seems to be lacking on the other amenities and “camping” experience.

Coyote spotted on October 23rd, 2025. My Red Heeler would sometimes walk with her tail between her legs, so I guess I know why now. If you are bringing children, be aware of your surroundings. I only spotted the Coyote because I had seen the Cottontail it was hunting. Other animals spotted: Cottontail rabbits, Woodpeckers, Kiskadees, Variety of (very cool, sometimes larger)Lizards, Butterflies, and Dragonflies. Also some bird of prey, possibly a Broad-winged hawk. I’d assume there are snakes, but I haven’t spotted one yet. If you like Camp McAllen, also check out the McAllen Nature center. Main differences: No pets at the Nature Center. Also, always bring a friend to the Nature Center for safety because it is more secluded and less public-facing. Bring your own dog poop bags. There are 3 stations that provide bags at the park, but none are at the parking lot/entrance, so your dog may do their business before you see one. These dog bag stations are also not marked on the maps provided on the trails. Also, dogs on leashes recommended, especially if your dog is excitable. There is dense cactus at certain points of the trail and there can be spiked debris on or very close to the t
